From exhibits showcasing the history of North Carolina's mountain region to our big annual events like Pioneer Day and Railroad Day, we offer an experience that promises fun for the entire family no matter what time of the year you visit.

Our mission is to encourage the preservation and understanding of western North Carolina’s history.  We display artifacts of the material culture and present programs on various aspects and traditions of mountain life.

As the western-most regional branch of the N.C. Museum of History family, we focus on a 39-county region that stretches from Forsyth and Mecklenburg Counties in the east all the way to the Tennessee border in the west.

We're also part of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources network, dedicated to bringing to life the wonderful culture of the Old North State.
